The UK government and the remaining 27 EU member states accept the draft agreement. The third round of Brexit negotiations started on 28 August 2017 in Brussels. Michel Barnier, the EU`s chief negotiator, and David Davis, The UK`s Secretary of State for Leaving the European Union, opened the negotiations. During this cycle, work continued on the main ones for an orderly withdrawal of the United Kingdom: the Council prepared in EU27 format the extraordinary meeting of the European Council scheduled for Sunday 25 November 2018 (Article 50). Ministers discussed the draft Brexit Withdrawal Agreement and commented on the terms of a political declaration on the future relationship between the EU and the UK. The EU27 (EU Member States except the UK) notes that sufficient progress has been made in Phase 1. This means that Phase 2 of the negotiations can begin. In Phase 2, the EU and the UK continue to negotiate the Withdrawal Agreement. But they also begin to discuss a transition period and explore their future relationship. The European Council endorsed the revised WITHDRAWAL Agreement in EU-27 format and endorsed the revised Political Declaration adopted on 17 October 2019 at the level of EU and UK negotiators. This agreement would allow an orderly withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union. EU-27 leaders will meet on 10 April 2019 to discuss the latest developments on Brexit.
Faced with the rejection of the Withdrawal Agreement by the House of Commons, I have decided to convene a European Council on 10 April,” confirmed President Donald Tusk on 29th March after the vote in the House of Commons. EU-27 leaders discussed Brexit and preparations for negotiations on the future relationship between the EU and the UK after the withdrawal. They reaffirmed their goal of building the closest future relationship with the United Kingdom and welcomed the Commission`s decision to re-state Michel Barnier. The agreement reached on 17 October 2019 follows intense negotiations between the European Commission and British negotiators in recent days. The Council (Article 50) adopted a decision on the signing of the Withdrawal Agreement. It also approved the draft decision on the conclusion of the Withdrawal Agreement and decided to forward the draft decision to the European Parliament for approval. The plenary of the European Parliament approved the Withdrawal Agreement. The Withdrawal Agreement also contains provisions obliging the United Kingdom to leave the Agreement establishing the Statute for the European Schools, with the United Kingdom being subject to an obligation for the Convention and the accompanying rules for accredited European Schools until the end of the last academic year of the transition period.dem, i.e. the end of the 2020-2021 spring semester.  EU-27 leaders proposed an extension of Brexit until 22 May 2019.
It will be granted when the UK Parliament approves the withdrawal agreement next week. .
